Silver Strikers seek revenge against Kamuzu Barracks

Silver Strikers and Kamuzu Barracks clash at Civo Stadium this afternoon in the TNM Super League, just days after the two sides met in the Fisd Challenge Cup semifinals.

KB won the match 1-0 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, thanks to Manase Chiyesa’s wonderful strike that helped the soldiers to reach the final.

There is an adage that lightening never strikes the same place twice, probably Silver will be reading that script when stepping onto the natural turf of Civo Stadium.

On the other hand, KB hope to do a double over Silver in five days. In the first round, the two sides drew 0-0.

A win for either side will see them ascend to the top of the table with 46 points and leap-frog current leaders, Nyasa Big Bullets, by a point.

The two teams are separated by goal difference with both having 43 points, with the Bankers on fourth position followed by the soldiers on fifth.

Silver Assistant Coach, Lovemore Fazili, said he has done his home-work for the re-match.

After Sunday’s match, Fazili described his side’s displays as one of the worst this season.

“We are not reading too much into what happened on Sunday. This is a different game and the players know the importance of the game,” Fazili said.

Any result apart from a win will dent Silver’s title hopes as this is the only silverware the Bankers are contesting.

There is also more bad news for Silver fans as Captain, Lucky Malata, is a major doubt for this clash due to an injury.

His absence was felt on Sunday as Silver’s defence was exposed by the soldiers.

KB Head Coach, Billy Phambala, said his charges were aware that wounded Silver might go flat out for revenge this afternoon.

“We expect a tough response from them but we have another plan for the game. We need maximum points because we are still in the title race,” he said.

As usual, Harvey Nkacha, Davie Banda and Chiyesa will be the players to watch for KB whereas Thuso Paipi, Duncan Nyoni and Timothy Chitedze will be potential match winners for Silver.

In another rematch, Blue Eagles host BeForward Wanderers at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.

Wanderers defeated Eagle’s 1-0 in the semi-finals of the Fisd Cup, courtesy of Bongani Kaipa’s goal.

The Nomads are sixth with 41 points from 25 games whereas the cops are second on 45 points from 24 games.
