TNM Super League Leaders Silver Strikers will be hoping to bounce back after a disappointing outing last week as they host Red Lions at Silver Stadium this afternoon.
The Bankers suffered a 1-0 loss to TN Stars at Kasungu Stadium, which was third loss this season. However, the match against Lions provides them a perfect opportunity for a quick response.
In this afternoon’s match, Silver desperately needs a win to regain five-point lead at the summit of the log table for at least 24 hours as second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets have a chance to reduce it as they take on Mighty Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium tomorrow.
Silver assistant coach Macdonald Mtetemera believes his troops are aware of the importance of the match.
“We have rectified all the mistakes and we are confident of getting a positive result. We need to approach this match in a different way,” Mtetemera said.
Silver lead the log table with 38 points from 17 matches, two points above Bullets who have played a game more.
Lions coach Alick Chirwa was optimistic of collecting maximum points in the two matches.
“We expect tough matches in Lilongwe but we are determined to win them,” Chirwa said.
In another match this afternoon, third-placed Civil Service United host Karonga United at Civo Stadium.
Civo lie third with 29 points from 17 matches whereas Karonga are sixth with 27 points.
At Kamuzu Stadium, fourth-placed Mighty Wanderers will host unpredictable Stars.
The Nomads had mixed fortunes in the Northern Region after collecting three points from two matches whereas Stars caused the biggest upset with a victory over Silver.
Currently fourth with 28 points from 18 matches, Wanderers have a chance to go third should Civo drop points against Karonga.
Moyale Barracks host Chitipa United at Mzuzu Stadium. Action will continue tomorrow as Ntopwa face Stars whereas Mzuzu Warriors will meet Chitipa.
Mafco will face Karonga at Chitowe Ground whereas Kamuzu Barracks will be in action against Lions.
