After signing four players from Premier Bet Wizards FC last season, Capital City giants, Silver Strikers, are reportedly interested in signing two more players from the club.
Details have emerged that the Central Bankers, who are on a rebuilding exercise, want to sign Wizards’ Captain, Trevor Kalema and forward Patrick Phiri.
Kalema and Phiri’s contracts are reportedly set to expire before the start of the new season in April 2017.
Silver’s interim General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, was reluctant to comment on the matter, he referred this reporter to the club’s Chairperson, Ralph Tseka.
Tseka insisted that apart from signing defender, Hygiene Mwandepeka and eyeing a striker, Silver will not be very active in this transfer window.
“We were already busy last season when we brought in many players,” Tseka said.
However, Silver’s Coach, Lovemore Fazili, though refusing to be specific on the identities of the targeted players, admitted that his side would beef up with four players.
“We might promote two players from the our Reserve Team and we are also targeting two players from other clubs,” Fazili said.
Silver lost captain, Lucky Malata, who joined Be Forward Wanderers on a three-year deal.
Wizards’ Technical Director and owner, Peter Mponda, though not confirming the discussions with Silver, said his club would not stop any player from joining a team of their choice provided procedures were followed.
“If they are free agents, Silver is free to speak to them. Wizards have never stood in any players’ way. We wish them the best of luck,” Mponda said.
Kalema confirmed that he was into the last three months of his contract with Mponda’s side.
“Silver showed interest in signing me, but I told them to speak to my current club, so I do not know if they discussed or not,” Kalema said.
Last season, Silver signed from Wizards, exciting winger Thuso Paipi, Levison Maganizo, Yamikani Fodya, goalkeepers Steven Micheta and Brighton Munthali.
Silver finished on position three in the TNM Super League and lost to Wanderers 4-3 on post-match penalties in the Carlsberg Cup final.
