Silver Strikers shift friendlies
Silver Strikers have shifted to a later date friendly games they were to play in Nkhata Bay District over the weekend.
The team’s General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, confirmed the shift of their preparatory matches for the 2017 Super League season.
“We were expected to play a number of games against Nkhata Bay teams on Saturday and Sunday. Apart from the preparations for the league, we wanted to identify some raw talent in the rural areas,” Nyirenda explained.
“As you are aware, Nkhata Bay has great football talent. They have produced players such as Micium Mhone. We, therefore, thought we could use such an opportunity to identify two or three players for our senior team. However, we had some logistical problems that led to the failure of the trip.”
He also added that they wanted to identify other players for Silver youth team.
“We need to have a good reserve team so that we do not buy more players from other teams in future. This is our nursery,” he said.
Recently, the Central Bankers promoted defender Hadji Wali from the reserve team to the senior squad.
Silver also roped in Hygiene Mwandepeka from Karonga United before extending contracts for attackers Victor Limbani and Tizgobere Kumwenda.
Silver finished the 2016 Super League season on position three with 56 points.
