Silver Strikers have signed former Premier Bet Wizards versatile defender Damiano Kunje, a hint that the Airtel Top 8 Cup champions are eyeing more glory.
Silver interim General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, on Tuesday confirmed the addition of Kunje and two youth team players to the squad.
“Apart from Kunje, we have also promoted two players [striker Chinsinsi Maonga and defender Innocent Shema] from the youth team,” Nyirenda said about the Malawi Under-17 National Football Team’s duo.
The latest arrivals have increased Silver’s squad to 33 players, thereby giving Coach, Lovemore Fazili, a pleasant selection headache.
Fazili yesterday said Kunje’s arrival would provide cover to the right-back position while also offering options to the midfield.
“Kunje can also play as a midfielder but he is more of a right full-back. As for Shema and Chinsinsi, they will still be playing for our Under-20 team in the FMB League while training occasionally with the senior squad for them to learn,” he said.
Silver are in the TNM Super League championship race, lying on second place, one point behind leaders Be Forward Wanderers, who have 38 points from 16 games. Silver have played one game more.
