Last season’s TNM Super League runners-up, Silver Strikers, risk being punished by Super League of Malawi (Sulom) for not affixing the leagues sponsors’ logo on their jersey.

This is in contradiction with league rules and regulations, which demand that teams display the logo of the league’s sponsors.

Sulom Vice General Secretary Major Flao Mwale said Silver would be punished for violating rules and regulations regarding the sponsors’ logo.

“For two games, Silver Strikers have been fielding a team without a TNM logo on their jersey, which is a clear violation of the sponsorship contractual agreement. All clubs were duly advised on the requirement to ensure each jersey has a TNM logo,” he said.

Mwale also noted that some Super League teams have put the logo on the wrong side.

“Some teams have put the logo at a wrong place, like the sleeve, instead of affixing it on the chest but Silver is the only club to have omitted the logo altogether,” he said.

However, Silver Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali brushed aside the accusations saying Sulom should learn to read and follow their own rules and regulations.

“Rules and regulations, demand that Sulom provides the badge to the club to affix. People should learn to read and follow own rules. We have not been given. Affixing a logo is a cost and we don’t have that luxury of spending anyhow.

“Article 38 of the rules and regulations demands Sulom to provide the badge to clubs. Clubs can only be fined K50,000 if they fail to affix it after being given,” he said.

Silver have played two games against Red Lions and Rumphi United with no sponsors’ logo.

This season, teams were given the right to buy uniforms on their own as long as they affix a TNM Logo.

Besides that, teams were also allowed to display their individual sponsors’ logo on the jerseys.
