TNM Super League giants Silver Strikers have proposed a friendly against Mozambique champions UD Songo in Lilongwe this weekend.
The Mozambican club— home to three Malawian players Frank Banda, John Banda and Charles Swini— is expected to play the Central Bankers at Silver Stadium before Silver travel to Mozambique next week for the return match.
Silver General Secretary, Lawrence Yobe, said discussions on the matter were underway.
“We are indeed talking to Songo so that we play two friendlies. According to the arrangement, we will host them here first before we travel to Mozambique. Songo have agreed to host us and we are working on the final touches,” Yobe said.
Reports in Mozambique suggest that Songo have contributed 10 players to the national team whereas five players are out due to sickness.
This means the team could come to Malawi with a depleted squad. The friendly could also see Frank facing his former team.
Silver commenced preparations for the new season some three weeks ago after a period of turmoil that saw several officials resigning.
But sanity returned to the club after the election of a new executive committee which gave the Young Chimodzi-led technical panel the target of winning all trophies in the new season.
The Bankers seem to be on course for a good season as they have started their preparations in earnest.
Silver played their first friendly of the pre-season on Sunday against TN Stars at Kasungu Stadium and won 4-1.
Khuda Muyaba scored a hat-trick, with the other goal coming from Michael Tetteh, whereas Tony Viyuyi netted the consolation goal for the hosts.
Silver are no strangers to international friendlies as they played two matches in Chipata, Zambia, ahead of the kick off of last season.
They beat Chipata City Council 1-0 before holding Nkhwazi FC to a goal-less draw.
