Silver Strikers kicked-off their TNM Super League second round campaign on a high after thrashing Max Bullets 4-0 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Wednesday to worsen the rookies’ woes in the league.

Elsewhere, Be Forward Wanderers dropped points by drawing 1-1 with Red Lions in Zomba to take the ninth-placed Nomads’ tally to 25 points from 16 games.

In Lilongwe, the Bankers put their Carlsberg Cup disappointment behind and displayed a solid performance to move up to second position with 32 points, two points behind leaders, Blue Eagles, with a game in hand.

Interestingly, the Bankers and Eagles face-off in what promises to be an exciting match on Saturday at Nankhaka Stadium.

Two goals in each half were enough to ensure maximum points for the Bankers.

Binwell Katinji grabbed a brace with the other goals from Lucky Malata and exciting winger, Duncan Nyoni.

It was Katinji who grabbed the opener when he headed in a corner-kick from Timothy Chitedze midway through the first half.

Two minutes later, Malata increased the scoreline with a glancing header from another corner-kick.

The teams went for recess with Silver leading 2-0. In the second half, Silver continued from where they left and pressurised the rookies.

Nyoni deflected cross went into the net after seven minutes into the second half before Katinji completed his brace 10 minutes later.

The loss means that Max are still bottom with just seven points.

Silver assistant coach, Lovemore Fazili, was delighted with the victory whereas Max coach, Aubrey Nankhuni, refused to speak to journalists.

In Zomba, Jafali Chande put the newly-crowned Carlsberg Cup champions, Wanderers, ahead but the 13th placed Lions equalised through Innocent Bokosi’s penalty awarded after a hand ball. The soldiers have 15 points.
