By Mabvuto Kambuwe:

Civil Sporting Club attacking midfielder Innocent Tanganyika must plead guilty to a charge of being behind his team’s exit from the Fisd Challenge Cup when he missed a decisive penalty as Silver Strikers progressed to the quarterfinals after winning 10-9 on post-match penalties at Silver Stadium yesterday.

Tanganyika stepped up for the challenge of taking Civil’s second penalty after goalkeeper Hastings Banda refused to take the spot kick. This came after Silver custodian Brighton Munthali had scored his.

Tanganyika shot his spot kick wide to send the Central Bankers’ fans into wild celebrations as Civil players shed tears of sorrow.

The win means Silver still have some hopes of ending the season with silverware but Civil will have to endure yet another disappointing season.

After a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time, the game had to be decided through penalties. Silver’s Herbert Wayenkha saw his penalty saved by Banda with Christopher Kumwembe of Civil seeing his spot kick smashing the crossbar.

In-form Ghanaian striker Tetteh gave Silver the lead following a blunder from Banda. But moments later, Bandawe leveled the scores from the penalty spot.
