Silver Strikers to play Zambian clubs
Airtel Top 8 Cup champions, Silver Strikers, have arranged friendlies with two Zambian teams in preparation for the 2018 season.
Silver interim General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, said the team will travel to Zambia’s Eastern Province of Chipata to face Chipata City and Zanaco on February 17 and 18.
Nyirenda said the agreement was reached with Chipata City officials who were in the country last weekend.
“We signed a partnership agreement with Chipata City Council Football Club, and this is just the beginning of our cordial ties which will go a long way in benefitting both sides,” Nyirenda said.
He said, after the first match, Chipata City will play against Silver on March 3 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
“We hope to benefit a lot from these matches as football in Zambia is very competitive. The players we signed in the past four weeks will be given a chance to prove that they are good enough to play for us,” Nyirenda said.
He said his club also wants to arrange a friendly against Tanzanian side, Mbeya City FC, before the new season kicks off.
Mbeya are under the mentorship of former Nyasa Big Bullets coach, Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan.
Silver are yet to play a friendly in the off season break and only regrouped on Tuesday.
The Bankers were busy on the transfer market, signing high profile players such as Lazarus Nyemera, Jack Chiona and Mphatso Phillemon from Mzuni, Dwangwa United and Blue Eagles, respectively.
