Silver Strikers, Zanaco agree K25 million Chawanangwa Kaonga transfer fee

Silver Strikers and Zambian club Zanaco have settled for $25,000 (about K25 million) as transfer fee for striker Chawanangwa Kaonga.

Initially, Silver were demanding $40,000 (about K40 million) from Zanaco for the player.

However, after discussions the two parties have reached an agreement.

Silver Company Secretary Peter Masiye said the deal is almost done.

“We have already finalised everything. We are just waiting for the payment and we are happy with the deal,” Masiye said.

Kaonga is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Zambian club after passing a medical.

He is expected to undergo medical tests in Zambia soon.

The player had a K20 million release clause in Silver’s contract.

Kaonga’s representative Fred Kalonga confirmed that the player has also agreed personal terms with Zanaco.

“I am happy that Silver and Zanaco have reached an agreement. This is good for the player and I hope he will deliver in Zambia,” Kalonga said.

Reports suggest that Zanaco have offered Kaonga $10,000 (about K10 million) as signing-on-fee which will be paid in two years, undisclosed monthly salary, game bonuses and free accommodation in Zambia.

The versatile attacker scored 12 goals in the just ended season in the TNM Super League.

He has speed and is good at dribbling. Kaonga returned to Silver after completing six-month Fifa ban for breach of contract when he signed for TS Sporting from Mozambican side Costa do Sol.

While in Mozambique, he helped Costa win the Mocambola League when he scored 10 goals. At Sporting, he made a bright start to his career before the ban, having scored five goals. Then, he was also linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
