Silver supporters seal club offices, want CEO out

Some Silver Strikers supporters took the law into their own hands when they sealed the club’s offices demanding the firing of Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali and fans engagement officer David Dauda.

The angry supporters are reportedly not happy with the duo claiming they make decisions with consultations.

Among other things, the supporters have questioned the club’s decision to offload some players.

They have also given the board one-week ultimatum to fire the two.

Eyewitnesses said the supporters handed over the keys to one of the directors.

Silver Supporters Committee Chairperson Brandson Levison said they are expected to meet with the board on Wednesday.

“The supporters have insisted that they will not open the offices until the matter is resolved. We are happy that the board has accepted to meet us on Wednesday,’’ Levison said.

Last year, the supporters also forced the board to nullify the supporters’ committee as they were not happy with the composition, claiming some were strangers. However, Silver Company Secretary Peter Masiye condemned the incident.

“We do not expect the supporters to behave in that way. We understand their grievances but they should follow proper procedures,’’ Masiye said.

Both Chimbali and Dauda are employees of the Silver Company Limited.

However, Chimbali said he was unmoved with what happened yesterday but refused to comment further on the matter.

When contacted yesterday, Dauda was reluctant to comment.

The club recently offloaded five players namely Blessings Tembo, Frank Banda, Mike Robert, Prince Phiri and Taonga Chimodzi. Silver finished last season empty handed.

They finished on position five in the TNM Super League with 51 points, 22 points behind champions Nyasa Big Bullets.

Silver exited the Airtel Top 8 Cup in the semifinals following 3-1 loss to Bullets. Again, they were eliminated from the FDH Bank Cup following 5-3 loss on post-match penalties to Dedza Dynamos.
