Flames goalkeeper Brighton Munthali has signed a contract extension at Silver Strikers, keeping him at the club until 2023.
Munthali’s existing contract was expected to expire next year in April but the Bankers have moved quickly to extend it by two years.
Both Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer, Thoko Chimbali and Munthali confirmed yesterday.
“We have agreed terms with Brighton to extend his contract with additional two years. He is a top player and we would like to keep him so that we fight for all trophies when football returns,” Chimbali said.
The goalkeeper was heavily linked with a move to Mozambican newly promoted side Black Bulls but the deal flopped despite the parties agreeing personal terms.
Munthali said he was excited to extend his contract.
“I am very excited to remain at Silver. The club has embarked on an exciting project and I want to be part of the club for more years,” Munthali said.
Giants Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets were also linked with the goalkeeper. Munthali is also the current first choice goalkeeper for the Flames.
He joined the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) sponsored side from Wizards [formerly Surestream] in 2016 alongside midfielder Levison Maganizo, Thuso Paipi, Mark Fodya and goalkeeper Steven Micheta.
At Silver, he has won the Airtel Top 8 Cup twice in 2017 and 2019. He was voted as the Player of the Tournament during the 2017 edition of the competition. But Munthali has never won the TNM Super League title since he joined the club.
