Samba Women Hockey Team will travel to Zimbabwe by public transport after failing to raise enough money for hiring a bus.
The team, which will leave tomorrow for friendly games in Zimbabwe, failed to raise K1.7 million for the trip.
The team’s captain, Trinity Chilembwe, confirmed the change in their travel plans.
“We ran out of time to raise the K1.7 million, so we have decided to just use the coaches that go to Zimbabwe,” she said.
Chilembwe added that the friendlies were important for the team’s international exposure.
“Even though we do not have enough money, we felt that we should still go to learn from our counterparts, and this will benefit the rest of the teams,” she said.
Simba are traveling to Zimbabwe for the first time.
Simba finished as champions for the FMB 11-Aside Hockey League and third in the FMB 6-Aside Hockey League.
