Sipho Makhabane in town
South Africa’s veteran musician, Sipho ‘Big Fish’ Makhabane, jetted into the country on Wednesday through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe ahead of a performance at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
The ‘Over and Over’ star will perform live with his band, spicing up the Great Angels Choir’s website celebration launch.
Great Angels Choir’s Music Director, Ephraim Zonda, said yesterday that they were excited that Sipho was finally here with his band.
“As he promised, he is finally here with his band and we are happy. A lot of people actually came to the airport to see him and the band and even Musicians Union of Malawi President, Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, was there,” Zonda said.
Zonda said, from the airport, they took Sipho around some townships before holding a press conference and later unveiling the website to the corporate world.
“We thought it wise to show the website to the corporate world and it was a successful event. Now we are looking forward to the main event on Friday (today), where we will perform for close to two hours and then Sipho. There will also be another surprise performance,” he said.
Zonda also said that there will also be a performance from the Army Brass Band.
“We are looking forward to the best and everything is in place. We will also launch the website because, on Wednesday, we were doing it with the corporate world. We will also be shooting a live DVD,” Zonda said.
He called on people to come in large numbers and be part of the celebration.
“This website is very important because people will have a chance to buy our songs online but also get to learn more about Great Angels. It will also be a platform for us to reach out to people in the diaspora,” Zonda said.
Sipho will be looking at nothing but the best on Friday, having failed to perform last year due to other challenges between organisers and venue owners.
