At exactly 9pm Thursday, Skeffa Chimoto, also known as the Jamming Machine, jumped to the stage in Times Entertainment Studios, Ginnery Corner, to premiere his last single for the year 2021: ‘Mthunzi wa Chitedze’.
In the year that is coming to an end today, Chimoto has produced a number of singles.
‘Mthunzi wa Chitedze’, which was premiered on Times Television yester-evening, comes after the Lilongwe-based musician dropped ‘Zitha’ on February 11 2020, ‘Kankha’ on June 4 2020 as well as ‘Pemphero’.
The track offers advice to people who easily give up on life to face problems head-on, instead of running away from them.
“The message is clear; I am advising people to find ways of addressing problems instead of running away from them. It’s better that they deal with the problems because, if they run away from them, they may face huge problems in the course of running away from them,” he said.
The track capitalises on contemporary genre.
Chimoto’s manager Levison Msakambewa said the production of the song means Chimoto has ended the year on a high.
“Skeffa is reminding us of the good old times. The song is good,” he said.
Chimoto has not departed from his old style.
“I like the song and it comes at a time people can utilise the opportunity to reflect on their life and restart, review the year and plan. If someone is down-trodden, it is time to rise up. Believe in yourself and accomplish your dream. That’s all I can say. Thank you Skeffa for this song and we look forward to many more such songs,” he said.
Chimoto took advantage of the premiere to sell the single.
“People can buy the song using mobile money service platforms such as Airtel Money, TNM Mpamba, Standard Bank’s Unayo and National Bank of Malawi’s Mo626,” he said.
Times Group Commercial Manager [Electronic Media] Alfred Kanjere said they felt duty-bound to be part of the ‘Mthunzi wa Chitedze’ premiere considering Skeffa’s artistic stature in the country.
“We are happy that we premiered ‘Mthunzi wa Chitedze’ single live on Times Television, which is the number one television station in the land.
“As everyone knows, Skeffa is a top artist and we could not let the opportunity of letting him launch the single on Times Television pass us,” he said.
