‘Skilled labour force critical for growth’

Vice-President, Everton Chimulirenji, has reiterated the need to enhance skills development among Malawians to spur economic growth.
Chimulirenji said this during John Chilembwe’s Memorial Service Wednesday, at Providence Industrial Mission (PIM) in Chiradzulu.
The government opened the Aida Chilembwe Community Technical College at PIM in 2018 to allow the youth in the area acquire vocational skills and become economically independent and contribute to the growth of the economy.
Chimulirenji said Chilembwe established PIM in 1900 knowing that the skills that would be learnt would help in the development of the country.
He added no country can develop without a skilled labour force hence advised people in the country to embrace the government’s vision on community colleges and remain focused.
“We describe Chilembwe as hardworking, patriotic and a man of integrity who wished his country well and wanted people to work hard in their fields instead of waging war that could not bring development,” Chimulirenji said.
He went on to urge parents to train their children to be hardworking and patriotic.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Francis Phiso, added Chilembwe loved his country by engaging the youth and women in skills development.—MANA
