Smart Challenge winners get computers from TNM
TNM has handed over four sets of desktop computers to the grand winners of Smart Community category in the just ended Smart Challenge competition.
The category winners are a group of seven young ICT enthusiasts who submitted their winning application under an organisation called Computer and Network Information Consultants (Conico). They will use the computers to set up a computer laboratory.
Speaking in Lilongwe at the handover ceremony, TNM’s head of Lilongwe Region Danny Malisita said TNM is commitment to fulfilling its promises as an enabler of youth and catalyst of economic development through provision of world class ICT and mobile data services.
“We believe these computers will create a platform for the young people to practice and create applications which will be beneficial to the country. It is a demonstration that we have potential on ICT if the young people are given a platform and better environment to showcase their talents,” said Malisita.
CONICO team leader Jacob Mziya thanked TNM for introducing Smart Challenge competition and also for fulfilling its promises.
“These computers will enable us realise our dream of setting up an ICT office,” said Mziya.
Mziya described the Smart Challenge competition as an encouraging initiative to the youth.
CONICO’s award-winning application, “Daily Box” is a solution to help people who have a bank account to manage their daily expenses and time.
Launched on October 5, 2015, the TNM Smart Challenge provided students, and their communities a platform to showcase innovation in mobile application development and over 30 entries made it to the final list of voting phase.
The winners from Smart Students and smart kid category will travel to USA, Silicon Valley where they will tour Facebook, Google, Apple and Stanford University.
