One of the country’s life assurance companies, Smile Life, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lilongwe’s Dignity Funeral Services aimed at reducing the burden that comes with funerals.
Smile Life Chief Executive Officer, Stain Singo, said the signing of the MoU will ease the lives of the company’s clients who subscribe to the Thandizo, Thandizo Plus and Group Funeral schemes.
Singo said through paying affordable monthly premiums, the clients could have a peace of mind when they are bereaved.
He said through the MoU, the clients could access services such as delivery of body from hospital to mortuary, body embalming, postmortem, body repatriation to countries outside Malawi, supply of coffin, body cremation as well as grave digging and filling.
“The procedure followed is simple. What is required is that when death has occurred, the client goes to our partner funeral service provider. They chose the services required and once the service provider confirms with us that indeed the client or organization is insured with us and also confirms the level of cover and those premiums are paid up to date, the client immediately access the services they require.
“Should the cover be higher than the services accessed, we pay the balance to the next of kin or the client. Likewise, if the services required are higher than that of the cover, the client tops up the difference,” Singo said.
Dignity Funeral Services Managing Director, Geoffrey Manyamba, said the partnership would ease access to top quality funeral services by Malawians.
Lilongwe City Mayor, Juliana Kaduya, hailed Smile Life and Dignity Funeral Services for striking the deal.
