Village Head Chitsa made the statement at a meeting the locals of the area had with Malawi Congress Party shadow member of Parliament for the area Moses Kunkuyu.
“Blantyre City Council told us that they would destroy our houses if we did not relocate in two months. We know that the order to chase us from our land is still there but they are waiting to carry it out after elections,” Chitsa claimed.
But Blantyre City Council Public Relations Manager, Anthony Kasunda, said the council does not have any sinister motives on the residents.
“No. We do not know anything about that [plan to relocate the people],” he said.
However, Kunkuyu claimed that he was aware of plans to relocate the residents.
