Social tourney kicks off Times TV anniversary
Times TV set the hype for its fourth anniversary celebrations with a social football tournament at College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre yesterday.
The tournament, dubbed X4, attracted hosts Times TV, Leopard Match, Mwaiwathu and Fattani Printers.
Times Group Chief Commercial Manager, Dumisani Ngulube, said the tournament was organised to set the stage for celebrations of Times TV’s fourth anniversary.
Ngulube said the tournament was also aimed at reaffirming Times TV’s position as a leader in sports coverage across the country.
“We are driving our agenda in live coverage of sporting activities all over Malawi, especially football. This one was just an ice breaker. In the coming months, we will be rolling out coverage of social football events as well as competitive games.
“This tournament gave us the power to embrace sports broadcasting and also embrace the power of soccer. As a business, we want to invest a lot in sports especially football,” he said.
During the day-long tournament, Fattani Printers emerged champions after thrashing 10-man Leopard Match 5-1 in the final.
To reach the final, Leopard defeated Mwaiwathu 1-0 while Fattani knocked out Times 3-0.
In a third-place match, Times settled for bronze after beating Mwaiwathu 2-0.
Fattani Team Manager, Harry Kapanga, hailed Times TV for staging the tournament and also applauded his charges for winning the tournament.
The country’s leading television station has taken football match coverage to another level by beaming live the Fisd Challenge Cup semifinal matches between Kamuzu Barracks and Masters Security as well as Nyasa Big Bullets against Moyale Barracks at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
