Songani Veterans coach, Louis Malikula, attributed lack of fitness to his Zomba non-leaguers’ embarrassing 7-0 loss to Be Forward Wanderers in a Presidential Cup round of 32 match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Tuesday.
“We lacked fitness. We trained hard for this game, but we could not just match Wanderers. It is tough playing against such a giant. We will go back home and prepare for next season’s Presidential Cup,” Malikula said in a post-match interview.
Peter Wadabwa, substitute Khumbo Ng’ambi and Jafali Chande bagged a brace each during the game. Mike Kaziputa also scored. Wanderers proceed to round of 16, whose draw will be held today in Blantyre.
Wanderers coach, Jack Chamangwana, who has been under pressure in the TNM Super League, said the win had boosted his charges’ confidence.
“We want to go all the way in the cup. We cannot choose who we should meet in the cup. We are ready,” Chamangwana told the press.
In other games played on Tuesday, TNM Super League rookies, Karonga United received a reality check after losing 4-1 to Rumphi Pirates in Mzuzu, whereas in Lilongwe, Epac trounced Maganga 7-1.
