South Africa-based artist seeks to build Malawi music

South Africa-based musician Scrafoc has said the country’s music industry has potential to grow and bring about fruits only if players worked together.
The artist said his dream is to help build the country’s music industry so as to benefit not only a few but all creatives and stakeholders.
“Every time I am doing music, I create an opportunity for creators all around the world to work together and these also find openings in working with new people,” Scrafoc said.
Real name Gift Chilonga, the artist is slowly building his musical empire and his target is to be the next top star in urban music and represent Malawi in top platforms.
An entrepreneur, who is running a technology enterprise and entertainment company in the Rainbow Nation, Scrafoc said music has always been part of his life since a tender age and that, with the resources he has, he wants to work with other players.
Born and raised in Blantyre, the artist recorded his debut song with Ralph Ching’amba in 2013 before dropping his debut album Do Something in 2018.
His other albums are Emergency and So Good.
Scrafoc’s music exploits have seen him working with artists such as Nyaradzai Chitheka Dube, Clara Thom and Steve Chalenga.
“It’s been exciting and I am still trying to create more channels to work with other artists. I am happy to also have hooked up with a talented producer in DJ Megi, who creates most of my songs,” he said.
Scrafoc said the overwhelming response he has received over the years has motivated him to create more music.
“I consider it an achievement to see people happy when they listen to my songs. We are passing through a difficult time and music helps heal souls, music is therapeutic,” he said.
With four albums to his credit now, including Amapiano Energy he has just released, people can access his songs on different online stores.
“Music is demanding but I try to balance and, through my company, I am also helping young people to find business opportunities,” Scrafoc said.
At the moment, the artist works with models, photographers, video creators, sound engineers, dancers, designers and media experts in building one productive community.
