South Africa’s National First Division (NFD) side, Highlands Park, have written Silver Strikers asking for the transfer fee of talented winger Duncan Nyoni after he impressed during trials.
Silver interim General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, confirmed that he received communication from NFD leaders over the player who returned home on Sunday.
“We got an e-mail from Highlands; they were asking about the price. We think it is an indication that he performed well during the trials but we have written them to give us results of the trials,” he said.
Nyirenda, whose side sold top goalscorer Mathews Sibale to Costa do Sol in Mozambique at K12 million, said they have set $25,000 (K19 million) price tag on Nyoni who can play on either flanks.
“He is a quality player and he is still young, so he cannot go at a cheap price. But we will not stand in his way if a good offer comes,” he said.
Nyoni yesterday said he was hopeful of clinching a deal with the South African club.
“I had a minor injury but everything went on well [during the trials]. It was a good experience, training with a good team because everything is more advanced compared to local teams,” the former Civil Sporting Club Youth player said.
Chibuto FC of Mozambique are also reportedly interested in the winger, who was a revelation in the TNM Super League in 2016 season, but struggled due to injuries last season.
