South Africa media abuzz with John Maduka’s K77 million car

Royal AM’s Malawian coach John Maduka is in the news in South Africa after the club bought him a R1.4 million (about K77 million) BMW X5.

The club’s owners bought the DStv Premiership status of Bloemfontein Celtic and relocated the club to Pietermaritzburg under the new name of Royal AM.

Maduka and his entire backroom staff retained the trust of the owners and are being motivated to deliver.

However, they started on a bad note with a 1-0 loss to Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

“Despite Royal AM losing in their opening DStv Premiership fixture, the league’s newcomers showed they can pull up in style with their new manager John Maduka sporting a BMW X5.

“Moroka Swallows FC left it late against Royal AM in their DStv Premiership clash to claim a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Moments before the clash, Royal AM posted pictures on their socials of their new manager John Maduka in a club-sponsored BMW X5,” reads the online publication’s report.

The report states Royal has been one of the most talked-about sides in South African football in recent times with their chairperson and owner Andile Mpisane and Shauwn Mkhize, respectively, being known for driving top-notch cars and splashing the cash.

“The club is known for having their own club collection of supercars with the club logo being branded on the vehicles. The motors are available for members of the staff, technical team or even players every now and then to use.

“The Pietermaritzburg-based club does it like no other with their fleet of BMW SUVs, in what appears to be X5’s and X3’s. The list contains a branded bus as well as a Nissan GT-R bearing their logo on it,” it reads.

Another online publication thesouthafrican.com describes Maduka as a man with style and good taste in wheels.

Maduka told www.kickoff.com that he was impressed by Royal’s professionalism.

“Whenever there is a transition, there will be challenges here and there but you know we’re welcomed here. If you come to the village and see where the team trains, you see the way things are done here is professional

“You can’t believe it was a team playing in the NFD [National First Division], well organised. The players are getting better and better, we know it’s not easy but we’ll get there. We want to be thankful for our chairlady who welcomed us here and you know we’re happy to be here,” he is quoted as saying.

The 50-year-old Maduka played for Bloemfontein Celtic from 2004 until his retirement in 2009. He played 67 matches for the former PSL side and also has 29 caps for Malawi.
