South Africa singer Lira jets in Friday
The stage is set for South Africa’s award-winning songstress Lira for a performance at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe Saturday night ahead of the Standard Bank sponsored inaugural Blue Mingoli concert formerly Joy of Jazz.
According to a statement from Standard Bank, the singer, who will share the stage with one of the country’s talented artists Lawrence Khwisa better known as Lulu jets into the country at 12:45pm through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
She will then hold a press conference at Standard Bank head offices at 15:00pm.
Lira is expected to interact with the bank’s employees and sign autographs, ahead of tomorrow’s concert.
The bank’s Head of Marketing Thoko Unyolo said they are looking forward to a spectacular show.
“We are looking forward to a great show with Lira and Lulu. Blue Mingoli seeks to establish itself as a part of music concert history in Malawi,” she said.
Unyolo said there has been a rush for tickets and that the advance ticket sales plan was on target. She attributed the positive response to the 50 percent ‘Early Bird’ discount offer which the bank was running for customers and the general public.
Lira, real name Lerato Malapo is an 11-times South African Music Award winning queen of Afro-jazz, soul and funk music.
She retains the highest ratings in popular African contemporary music and has six albums to her credit, the latest being her 2014 release, Rise Again.
