Southern Region Football Association polls next month
Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Chairperson, Raphael Humba, has announced that the association will elect new office bearers early next month.
Associations for the Northern and Central regions held their elections last week with Lameck Khonje and Austin Ajawa re-elected as chairpersons respectively.
Humba said his association will meet districts committees to brief them about how they can nominate candidates for the polls.
“As you are aware, two years have elapsed since we formed the regional associations. We need to go to the polls in respect of the constitution. We have been serving in interim capacity. I want to assure all stakeholders that come the first week of December, we will have the elections,” he explained.
Humba has since showed interest in seeking re-election.
Youth football coach, Enos Chatama, believes the league’s standards have declined, adding that it needs overhaul.
Chatama cited as evidence of the falling standards, the failure by the region’s Premier Division champions to survive once they get promoted to the Super League.
“The quality of players is also another contributing factor. Coaches are failing to identify and nurture players that can compete at the highest level,” Chatama said.
Players such as Limbikani Mzava, Gabadinho Mhango, Zicco Mkanda, Fischer Kondowe and James Chilapondwa graduated from the Premier Division.
