Southern Region Football Association reports sponsor to Fam

What seemed to be a rosy relationship between Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) and league sponsor, Masters Security Services, could be heading for a sad ending.

After months of waiting for the sponsor to present prizes to Premier Division and Division One champions, SRFA has taken the matter to Football Association of Malawi (Fam).

SRFA Chairperson, Raphael Humba, said Masters Security officials have not been forthcoming on the prize presentation ceremony, despite constant reminders.

“They have even stopped picking our calls. So, we are very frustrated. They have made life difficult for us because without the prize presentation ceremony, we cannot say we have concluded the 2017 season,” Humba said.

Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, confirmed that they were following the matter with Masters Security.

“We have been in touch with Masters Security and something is happening,” Gunda said.

Masters Security Services Business Development Manager, Christopher Njeula, said the company had finalised arrangements for the prize presentation ceremony.

“We will get in touch with Mr Humba by close of business today [yesterday] to confirm that we are all set to present the prizes. It is a commitment we made and we cannot go back on our promise,” Njeula said.

He said the ceremony would have taken place before February but the team’s Caf Confederation Cup commitments delayed the process.

Masters Security sponsors the SRFA league to the tune of K10.5 million, with Nchalo United and Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves expected to get the winners’ prizes after emerging champions in the Premier Division and Division One, respectively.
