Southern Region Volleyball League (SRVL) is expected to identify champions in the men league this weekend.
Twelve teams have qualified for the two-day regional finals that get underway today at Mubas and Blantyre Youth Centre.
SRVL General Secretary, Charles Msusa, said the finalists were identified through the six zones including Mwanza- Neno, Shire Highlands, Zomba, Eastern Region and Blantyre-Chiradzulu.
“The qualifying games were played in the zones and each zone supplied two teams,” he said.
Msusa said there was room for improvement in the men’s section of the league.
“As far as men teams are concerned there is a long way to go. We expect teams to train more to perform better. We urge people to come and watch. It will be an exciting weekend. We are using courts at Mubas and BYC,” he said.
The league is using the competition as a platform to identify teams that will qualify for the national championship slated for next month.
The self-sponsored trophy is worth K2 million and champions will pocket K120,000, medals and trophy whereas runners-up will pocket K80,000. The third-placed side will get K50,000.
SRVL will also present individual awards such as best receiver, blocker and spiker to outstanding players.
