The Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) championship will be decided on Saturday when last four top teams compete in the final round of the play-offs at Blantyre Youth Centre.
In the first semifinal, Crazy Warriors take on Magang’a with Bricks entertaining Polytechnic in the second match.
The winning teams meet in the final to determine the champions with the losers fighting for bronze.
Sozobal vice-chairperson, Victor Jere, said they were looking forward to a great finish.
“The league has been exciting. This time around all the teams featured in the play-offs using the double-knockout format. This format ensures that teams deservedly reach the next round after overcoming opponents in games that can stretch from two to three matches depending on the outcome of the first three games,” he said.
The final play-offs will also feature ladies and wheelchair basketball to spice up the event.
“This is also one way of promoting the sport in ladies circles. We would like to revive women’s basketball and by bringing them together, we feel it will inspire ladies to be actively involved in the sport. We also feel we should help the nation promote wheelchair basketball which is played across the globe,” he said.
Bricks are the defending champions. The league attracted 11 teams this season.
