Sparc donates K1m towards Ictam indaba
Information Communication Technology experts Sparc Systems Limited on Saturday donated K1 million towards Information Communication Technology Association of Malawi (Ictam) Annual General Meeting (AGM), slated for February 27 in Lilongwe.
Presenting the cheque to Ictam, Sparc Managing Director Wisley Phiri said being a local company; they saw the need to support the meeting.
Phiri said the AGM will see the ICT sector revamped as it has been idle for the past years.
“Local ICT companies have gone through numerous challenges because they lack leadership that would take their views and concerns to the government. We believe this AGM will help revamp the sector,” he said.
Phiri further said Malawi needs to move with global trends hence the need to have a voice from the sector.
“ICT is developing each and every day, and as a company we are trying to move with global trends. However, it is not only us as Sparc that need to advance in our systems, other players in the sector also have to advance.
“The AGM will provide a platform for ICT experts to share ideas and map the way forward on how we as a nation can advance in terms of ICT,” said Phiri.
Ictam interim president Max Phiri said the AGM is a big event for the sector.
He said the sector has failed to conduct the AGM for three years due to financial problems.
“We are very appreciative of what Sparc Systems has done today. This donation will go a long away and will help change the ICT direction of the country,” he said.
Phiri said the AGM will elect new office bearers that will be active and make sure that the association is vibrant.
