Squash Malawi has asked players to start registering for General Alliance Squash Tournament, which is scheduled for Blantyre next month.
The association’s Vice President, Gordon Benbow, on Sunday said the tournament would be played in three divisions.
“Squash Malawi is keen on having all ages enter [the competition]. We will make sure that all levels are catered for. There will be cash prizes in all divisions and special cash prizes [such as match of the tournament] as dictated by Chief Referee.
“The format of the tournament will be PAR (point a rally) to 11. Matches will be first-round knock-out and plate, unless otherwise indicated once the numbers are known. It is possible that a Swiss Pair Format (playing every round) will be used,” Benbow said.
During last year’s tournament, James Matewere retained the title for the third successive time after beating Aubrey Taulo 3-2.
In a third-place match, Julius Taulo defeated Chiku Nkutumula 3-1.
In B-section, Thiba James beat Enock Juma 3-2 to win whereas in the ladies’ section Yiwonda Banda beat Christina Yiannakis 3-1.
