St Columba Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) of the Blantyre Synod, yesterday, ordained and commissioned 545 church elders and deacons.

Speaking during the service, St Columba CCAP Church Moderator, Reverend Innocent Chikopa, asked the newly ordained leaders to inspire hope in the church’s flock.

The church needs leaders who can inspire hope in its flock. The church needs leaders who will serve the sheep with passion, who cannot scatter them and the leaders who follow the leadership style of Jesus Christ,” he said.

Chikopa said the ordination and commissioning of the elders and deacons symbolise growth of the church in its activities.

He said the number of the ordained and commissioned elders and deacons reflects on how the people want to be served at cottage level, saying the names came from all the 14 cottages of the church.

St Columba CCAP Church Session Clerk, Hezekiah Chiomba Banda, who was also ordained as a church elder, said he is happy to be serving the Lord as a church elder.
