Stadia rehabilitation costs K163 million

Region 5 Youth Games Local Organising Committee (Loc) has disclosed that rehabilitation works on three sports facilities cost K163 million.
The three facilities are Civo Stadium, Bingu National Stadium (Upper Ground) and Silver Stadium.
Loc Chief Executive Officer Emma Mabvumbe disclosed rehabilitations on BNS Upper pitch cost K55.7 million whereas a total of K59.6 million was spent on Civo pitch.
The rehabilitation works on Silver Stadium which is still underway will cost K47 million.
The works were part of the 2022 African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games legacy which the country hosted in December last year.
After handing over the Civo pitch to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) ahead of the start of the football season in April, Mabvumbe said the pitch was in perfect condition.
“Against all odds, the contractor has done a good work. The quality of work is top class and we are very happy that we engaged a local contractor,’’ Mavumbe said.

Loc also engaged Water Tech to construct a ground watering system with 80 meters deep well, an electric water pump and three water tanks. The water
Deputy Director of Administration at OPC Lyson Kandu also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work.
“The contractor has done a commendable job and we are very happy,” Kandu said.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has already conducted inspection at the facility ahead of the new season.
The Flames also trained at the facility on Thursday afternoon.
