“To begin with, Gaba scored a fantastic goal. If you can go back to watch the match, you will appreciate the beauty of the goal. His movement and execution was just superb. This is why we are calling on the nation, not only football fanatics but everyone, to vote for Gaba. I have already voted and I am pleading with the nation to vote for him. If they wanted duplicate votes, I would have voted, again,” he said.

Similarly, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Walter Nyamilandu urged the nation to vote for Gabadinho’s goal, saying it deserved the award.

“Show your admiration and patriotism by voting. It will be a great honour for Malawi. Let’s do our best to secure the award. It will be unfair to lose it because of not voting in numbers. That goal was exceptional and it deserves our overwhelming support. It’s time to show that Malawi has talent and be proud of it,” Nyamilandu said.

Nyasa Big Bullets Supporters Director Stone Mwamadi also encouraged fans to vote, saying it was easy to do so.

“Gabadinho is a Malawian and if he wins the award it means Malawi, as a nation, has won. I encourage every football supporter to vote for Gabadinho’s goal. It is easy to vote online. Once you have the link just click and follow it. You will easily notice Gabadinho’s face and where to tap to cast your vote,” he said.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers official Lumbani Nyazgambo Mtonyo asked Fam to liase with TNM and Airtel to send messages to every number to vote for Gabadinho.

Voting closes tomorrow midnight.

According to the Confederation of African Football, fans votes will be accounting for 70 percent of the total weight of the decision in regards to the Caf Goal of the Year.
