Stakeholders urged to promote female condoms
HUNGER Project Malawi has urged stakeholders in the country to enhance efforts of promoting usage of female condoms in the country.
Every year, the international community commemorates female condoms day on September 16. Hunger project Malawi HIV and Aids Nutrition and Gender Officer Grace Chikowi said female condoms are also crucial in HIV and Aids response.
She said the usage remains low hence the need to increase awareness.
“We have learnt that increased usage of female condoms requires proper education. Some people think that if they use the condom it may get into their stomach and they may have problems with it.
We work with various communities trying to encourage them and to educate them on how best they can use the condoms,” Chikowi said She said in the areas that hunger Project Malawi is working, the demand is high, as people have learnt that apart from HIV and Aids prevention; female condoms are also a tool for family planning.
“In the areas where education has been provided, the demand is higher than in other places where awareness remains low,” she said.
