The Standard Bank plc golfing season returns with a field of over 130 golfers set for action at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) today and tomorrow.
The two-day tournament will tee-off under the individual stablefold shot gun start format.
BSC Golf Captain Chikhulupiliro Mphatso said the timing was perfect for golfers to mark the easing of Covid restrictions with the tournament.
“The whole BSC fraternity is very appreciative of Standard Bank’s return to sponsor such a massive tournament. This will provide an opportunity to our golfers to keep fit as well as allow the bank to interact with its customers.
“The competition is highly valued especially at a time when most companies have slowed down on sponsorships since the advent of the Covid pandemic. We encourage other corporate partners to emulate the gesture and partner us in developing golf,” he said.
He added that they have revamped the golf course’s irrigation system and maintenance of the greens and fairways to improve playability.
Lilongwe Golf Club Captain Thomas Chafunya, who is basking in the glory of hitting a hole-in-one while playing alongside Vice President Saulos Chilima last weekend, said he was geared for the Blantyre tournament.
“I am grateful to Standard Bank for inviting me to this great competition. I look forward to a great time on the greens as I interact with fellow corporate customers,” Chafunya said.
The Lilongwe edition of the tournament is scheduled for the weekend of November 2021.
The men’s category of the competition has been divided into divisions A and B with the ladies scheduled to play in one division.
The winner in each of the three categories will get K200,000 with the runner-up pocketing K150,000.
The third-placed player will receive K100,000.
