Standard Bank hails impact of media
Standard Bank has said the media has played a major role in adding value to the Standard Bank Knockout Cup, which has been played for nine years in the country.
The bank’s head of marketing, Thokozani Unyolo, said this on Wednesday in Blantyre during the media awards for the 2015 edition of the cup.
“We value the media because it always keeps the nation informed about what is happening in the competition and it also brings awareness about what Standard Bank is doing in terms of developing football in the country. We thank the media for supporting us over the years. There is always powerful communication of football using several mediums,” she said.
Unyolo added that the media awards have led to quality reporting about the competition.
“There is more professional and diverse reporting about the cup now. We look forward to more exciting competitions in the future,” she said.
During the awards, Pilirani Kachinziri from Times Group won the best television presenter for his programme Sports Arena on Times Television.
Madalitso Phiri of Capital FM Radio won the best radio presenter, while Nation Publications’ Bobby Kabango was chosen the best photojournalist.
Singayazi Kaminjolo of Nation Publications emerged the winner in the print category, while Alex Mezalumo of Nyasa Times was the best in the online media category.
The awards were determined by a high-powered team of media scholars and practitioners led by FD Communications director, Frank Phiri.
Civo United won this year’s Standard Bank Cup after defeating Be Forward Wanderers 1-0 in the final.
