Standard Bank partners Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta

Standard Bank has partnered Malawi-Sri Lankan Cricket Community ahead of this year’s Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta to be held at Country Club Limbe, Blantyre on Sunday.

Standard Bank’s Head of Marketing, Thoko Unyolo, said they contributed K1.5 million towards the nine-aside tournament, whose star attraction will be 1996 Sri Lankan World Cup winner, Romesh Kaluwitharana.

“Our partnership with the Sri Lanka Cricket Community is as a result of our deep understanding of the impact and contribution that Sri Lanka and its cricketers make in the world of cricket. As a bank passionate about building relationships, we are very proud to be associated with this week’s cricket fiesta,” she said.

“We are proud to be supporting an event, where a world renowned former cricketer and champion, will be in attendance. Such an effort will help to popularise the game of cricket in Malawi, and we at Standard Bank, are proud to be part of this historic event.”

Niroshim Dias, representing the Sri Lanka Cricket Community, said they invited Kaluwitharana as part of the event’s tradition of developing team-work and cricket skill.

“Romesh’s presence will make the event more meaningful and glamorous,” Dias said about the cricketer who was a batsman and wicket keeper between 1994 and 2004. Kaluwitharana also had stints as India coach.

The fiesta is into its second year. Activities to spice up the tournament include Sri Lankan music, food and children’s games.
