STANDARD Bank has stepped up preparations for “Be More Race” slated for July 30 in Lilongwe. The bank’s Head of Marketing, Thoko Unyolo, said preparations were at an advanced stage.

She said this during the route tour on Tuesday in the city.

“We are encouraged by the passion people have shown in this race. We have received an overwhelming response from customers and other people who want to participate in this event. Registration is continuing and we just want to encourage Malawians to register,” Unyolo said.

“We take pride in driving the growth of Mother Malawi and moving her people and economy forward. The race’s theme “Be More” underscores our determination to bring about positive change in society and make what seemed impossible possible.”

The race is aimed at bringing together customers, community, civic leaders and professional athletes. Lilongwe City Mayor, Desmond Bikoko, welcomed the marathon, saying it would bring back life into the city.

“This is a great initiative and we are in full support of the race, “he said.

The race, which will start from City Centre to Kumbali Village on the out skirts of Lilongwe, has been split into three categories—five kilometres, 10 kilometres and 21 kilometres for men, women and children above the age of 12.

The bank is offering the participants a chance to win fitness and healthy gear every week, with the grand prize being a Trojan Glide Cycle 220. Some K6 million is up for grabs in the race.
