Stars, Zingwangwa clash in Unayo final

Stubborn Ndirande Stars will meet their match when facing Zingwangwa United in the final of the Unayo Southern Region Football Association Division One Cup at Balaka Stadium this afternoon [Sunday].

Both teams play a free flowing passing game and they build attacks from the back.

It promises to be an entertaining game as both teams want to prove their prowess in Division One having earned a good reputation over the last two seasons.

Stars are smarting from 2-1 loss to Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve in the Nyasa Capital Finance last week.

On the other hand, Zingwangwa lost to Bullets Reserve in the final of Powerstart Tayale Top 8 Cup last season.

The two sides met twice in the league with the first round match ending in a draw while Stars won the second round fixture.

Stars Team Manager Kuruwa Ngwira said their ultimate mission was to win.

“This is our first season in Division One. We have impressed but it will not mean anything if we go empty handed. We have to win at all cost,” he said.

However, his counterpart, Dida Zingwangwa said they were set to revenge.

“We are planning to pin them down in the early stages. We want to hold them by scoring early goals. I have also told my boys to win the match to celebrate with me for earning a Caf C licence,” he said.

In a third-placed match, Bangula FC will meet Ngabu FC. SRFA Chairperson Raphael Humba said they are hopeful that they are expecting a thrilling final.

“We thank Standard Bank for investing in Division One football. We have produced good teams through the competition,” he said.

Last year, Standard Bank unveiled a K46 million sponsorship package for the country’s regional football leagues through its Unayo brand.
