The long-awaited Super League of Malawi (Sulom) annual general meeting (AGM) will take place on September 26 at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.

Some of the items on the agenda during the meeting include filling of the vacant post of legal advisor, presentation of a financial report and submission and approval of the 2020/2021 budget.

A press release signed by Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, stated that the meeting will be held under strict Covid-19 preventive measures.

“The AGM shall be attended by the 16 Super League clubs who will be represented by three delegates per club. The names of the delegates to reach Sulom 14 days from the date of this notice. In line with Article 22 (2d), clubs are supposed to nominate members to the Executive Committee not less than 14 days and not more than 28 days to the AGM at which election of the legal advisor is to take place to Sulom secretariat. We look forward to receiving your nomination form from 10th to 15th September 2020,” reads part of the release.

Sulom last held an elective AGM at Kabumba Hotel, Salima, in March 2019.

Announcement of the date has been met with relief by clubs that had been pressing for the gathering since the 2019 season ended in December.

Apart from the agenda items, the clubs expect the meeting to discuss issues surrounding TNM Super League prize money and broadcast rights.

In separate interviews, Be Forward Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Civo Service United officials expressed hope that sticky issues would be addressed during the meeting.

Wanderers General Secretary, Victor Maunde, applauded Sulom for setting the date, saying the meeting was long overdue.

“We will meet as a club to discuss some of the issues on the agenda. Among other things, we expect the AGM to discuss the issue of prize money for league champions,” Maunde said.

Civo General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, said: “We are happy that finally we will have a chance to voice out our concerns. We expect a fruitful meeting.”

Silver Chief Executive Officer, Thokozani Chimbali, said they expect a meeting that will tackle all pertinent issues.

“Everybody has been waiting for this meeting and we hope to discuss important issues for the good of the game. It is good that we have the time to generate some of the issues to be discussed during the meeting,” Chimbali said.
