Sulom concludes test broadcasts

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has concluded test broadcasts for TNM Super League matches with immediate effect saying, going forward, it will be purely commercial.

Mpira TV, which Football Association of Malawi (Fam) owns, has been doing test broadcasts on Super League matches since the games restarted last month.

However, the test broadcasts were only done in Blantyre despite matches being played in all venues across the country.

Ironically, Mpira TV failed to beam the Super League match between Nyasa Big Bullets and Civil Service United last Saturday, which the People’s Team won 2–1 .

In a statement Tuesday, Sulom said, following a meeting held on April 17, it was agreed that test broadcasts should be concluded by April 25.

“Sulom and all its clubs hereby confirm that the test matches have been concluded on April 25 2021 as per agreement. In view of this development, all match broadcasting rights shall be sold on as is basis. All interested parties are requested to pay upfront the requisite fees,” Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda said Tuesday.

“Testing has been done and we are yet to get technical reports but we will be glad to know how Centre and North will be catered for. We would be grateful if the broadcasting of games were country wide,” he said.

The development comes few days before the Blantyre derby involving crowd-pullers Bullets and Mighty Wanderers slated for Kamuzu Stadium this Saturday.

The project is expected to be launched soon.

Fam Executive Committee Member Fellister Dossi, who is also the chairperson of the Taskforce on TV broadcasting and E-Ticketing, said she was hopeful that the deal would be a success.

“We are very much satisfied with the test broadcasts. The intention, really, was to see if we are ready for the project and also testing the signal with MDBNL [Malawi Digital Broadcasting Network Limited]. We were just testing the broadcast; the cost of doing the same was on the host producers, hence we could only test in the Southern Region. But the fans should be assured that, when we roll out the project, we will beam all matches across Malawi e.g Super League games, FDH cup games and national football teams.

On his part, Bullets
