Sulom not taking sides

As the battle for post of Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Legal Adviser intensifies, the body’s president Tiya Somba Banda has said his organisation is prepared to work with the winning candidate.
“We will welcome and support which ever candidate wins,” Banda said.
The development comes after reports emerged that some Sulom officials have embarked on a campaign trail supporting their preferred candidates over the weekend.
Blue Eagles Vice Secretary William Nkhoma, former Silver Strikers officials Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda and Innocent Kadammanja were nominated to contest for the post of Legal Adviser when Sulom holds its Annual General Meeting at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe on Saturday.
According to sources, Sulom Vice Secretary Zacharia Nyirenda joined [Thabo] Nyirenda on his Northern Region tour whereas Sulom Executive Member Charles Manyungwa teamed up with Kadammanja on a campaign journey.
Sources said the two Nyirenda’s were accompanied by former Civo Service United coach Milias Jegwe Pofera as they dated Northern Region based Super League sides canvassing for votes.
Chitipa United General Secretary Marshall Mwenechanya confirmed having met the three over the weekend in Chitipa.
“They came and presented their manifesto and as a club we will make a decision soon,” he said.
Ekwendeni Hammers Mabuchi Mkandawire also confirmed meeting the officials [Zacharia, Thabo and Pofera].
A source from Civo indicated that Manyungwa joined another candidate Kadammanja on his campaign trail in Central Region.
Nyirenda [Zacharia] refused to comment whereas Manyungwangwa’s phone could not be reached.
