Sulom warns Nomads for shunning dressing room

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has warned Blantyre giants, Be Forward Wanderers, for shunning Civo Stadium’s dressing room during the TNM Super League match they lost 1-2 to Kamuzu Barracks (KB) a fortnight ago.

It is reported that Wanderers opted to use the ‘restaurant’ path to enter the stadium.

According to Sulom’s letter signed by its vice- General Secretary, Thoko Chazema, Wanderers ignored the dressing room despite that their Team Manager, Steve Madeira, had the keys.

Madeira promised to use the dressing room at half-time.

However, despite the stadium’s management forcing the dressing room open at half-time, Wanderers refused to enter.

Chazema said: “The owners of the ground complained about the loss of business on this day as the restaurant was closed because Be Forward Wanderers used the restaurant as the dressing room.”

The Sulom official further warned Wanderers that they risked being punished if they behaved that way again, adding that their conduct was detrimental to football development.

However, Wanderers’ General Secretary, Mike Butao, while not confirming receiving the warning letter, said it was unfortunate that Sulom did not act when KB manhandled their players.

“We tried to talk to Sulom about the situation at Civo Stadium. In the first place, we found the doors of the stadium locked. We were given a small space to train. Let me receive the letter first then I will comment more, otherwise, we are not in support of this behaviour,” Butao said.

Recently, the Lali Lubani side were fined a total of K2 million for their unsporting behaviour during the Carlsberg Cup.
