Sunbird Capital now four stars

Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe has attributed the four-star rating by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the Hotels Board to customer feedback programmes that the hospitality chain has been implementing to improve service delivery.

The hotel was given the four-star rating last month after authorities inspected the hotel premises and services on offer and were satisfied that the award was necessary.

The hotel’s Director of Operations and Quality Assurance, Oswald Bwemba, said for Sunbird Capital Hotel to qualify for the four-star status, it had to meet certain requirements.

He was speaking at the hotel when he and the hotel’s manager, Proud Chalira, addressed the media on the significance of the award and what it means to the hospitality facility.

“It was not easy for us to meet the requirements of the four-star status. We have done a number of renovations and the type of food we offer, the quality and size of our linen were also some of the things which were considered,” said Bwemba.

He added that the hotel will continue to work hard to sustain the award which now puts it in the same category as Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

Asked whether the achievement will result into the hotel adjusting its prices, Bwemba said charges will be reviewed depending on a number of factors like inflation and the general performance of the economy.

“Being a four-star hotel does not mean that we will immediately raise our charges because we have to look at many other factors. What we have to do now is sustain the status,” said Bwemba.

Sunbird Capital Hotel is one of the seven hotels and resorts under Sunbird Malawi Limited which has a presence in Blantyre, Mzuzu, Salima, Lilongwe and Mangochi
