Malawi Stock Exchange-listed Sunbird Tourism Limited has signed an agreement with the Malawi Government to manage Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay.
Sunbird Chief Executive Officer, Yusuf Olela, said the management contract is effective October 1, 2020.
He said Sunbird brings on board a brand that has stood the test of time, with unique expertise, vast experience, and thorough knowledge of the market and industry that will strategically benefit Chintheche.
Olela said Sunbird firmly believes that there is great potential in positioning the Northern part of Malawi as a viable tourism destination both locally and internationally through this partnership.
“The coming in of Chintheche as part of Sunbird brand, will further consolidate this position, and ensure growth through an increased footprint with Lakeside resorts now in all three regions of Malawi. Sunbird Tourism continues to explore opportunities to further diversify and grow its product portfolio by focusing on leisure resorts and increased activities,” Olela said.
He said as part of the Sunbird Group, Chintheche Inn will have the distinct advantage of leveraging Sunbird Tourism plc’s significant investment in people, products, processes and marketing.
“It is our intention to add more value to the product through investments that will improve the operational efficiencies, and increase the top line with the goal of ensuring a profitable entity,” Olela said.

Chintheche Inn offers a relaxing, rejuvenating and adventure experience, that will now be complimented by Sunbird’s unique excellent and personalized service.
