Super League returns April 2

Zachariah Nyirenda

The 2020/21 TNM Super League season will resume on April 2 after the government gave Super League of Malawi (Sulom) the green light.

After getting the go-ahead, Sulom quickly released fixtures Thursday.

Matches were suspended on January 19 after the government gazetted Covid laws restricting gatherings to 50 people.

Sulom Vice General Secretary Zachariah Nyirenda said they were waiting for official communication from the government on the matter.

“We have been given the green light but we are just waiting for official communication from the government,” Nyirenda said.

Three matches have been lined up for Friday, with four scheduled for Saturday.

Third-placed Red Lions will host Mzuzu Warriors at Chiwembe whereas Civil Service United will face TN Stars at Civo Stadium. Mighty Tigers will be in action against Ntopwa at Kamuzu Stadium.

On Saturday, defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets will face Warriors at Kamuzu Stadium whereas Ekwendeni Hammers will host Mighty Wanderers at Mzuzu Stadium.

Mafco face Karonga United at Karonga Ground whereas Kamuzu Barracks will meet Blue Eagles at Civo Stadium.

Action continues on Sunday with Eagles hosting Civo at Nankhaka Stadium whereas Moyale will lock horns with Wanderers.

Leaders Silver Strikers date Stars on Monday whereas Bullets will line up against Tigers on the same day.

Civo General Secretary Ronald Chiwaula said they were ready to resume action.

“We want to continue from where we left. We are happy that at last football is back,” he said.

As part of preparations for the restart, Sulom in conjunction with Football Association of Malawi conducted Covid-19 tests for players and match officials.

Silver lead the 16-member log table with 19 points from nine matches at par with second-placed Hammers and Red Lions
