Suspect crashes minibus while running away from police

Police in Ntcheu have arrested a minibus driver, Innocent Juma, 30, of Benga Village Traditional Authority Mwadzama in Nkhotakota after his vehicle, which was allegedly transporting 30 bags of Indian hemp , overturned at Mphepozinayi while running away from police.

According to Ntcheu Police publicist, Hastings Chigalu, the law enforcers got a tip from the public that a Nissan Caravan registration KK 6459 was seen driving from Chigodi towards Kandeu at around 1pm on Monday with the windows covered with black plastic sheetings.

“Upon reaching Mphepozinayi and seeing that the police were chasing them, the driver stepped on the gas pedal harder, cruising at a breath taking speed until he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned,” Chigalu said.

The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was apprehended but other three suspects ran away and are still at large.

Meanwhile, police have mounted a search for the three while the driver will soon appear in court to answer charges of being found in possession of sativa cannabis contrary to Regulation 4A of Dangerous Drugs as read with Section 19(1) of Dangerous Drugs Act.
