Tabitha Chawinga 2nd on Swedish top goal scorers chart
Malawi’s sole women football export to Europe, Tabitha Chawinga, continues to shine in Sweden as she is now the second on top goal scorers list in the Swedish Second Division with five goals.
Chawinga scored her fifth goal of the season over the weekend to help Kvarnsvedens IK to 1-0 victory over QBIK.
She is four goals behind the leading goal scorer but Chawinga has only played three games for her new club after joining from Third Division side Krokom/ Dvarsatt IF.
“It was a tough game but I fought hard to score the winning goal. If I continue working hard, I will soon overtake the leading goal scorer,” said Chawinga from Sweden.
The victory has pushed Kvarnvedens to number five on the log table with seven points from five games.
In an interview on Tuesday, DD Sunshine director David Dube heaped praise on Chawinga.
“She has special talent and I am confident that she will be the top goal scorer at the end of the league,” said Dube.
Last season, Chawinga finished as the top goal scorer with 38 goals after playing 18 games despite joining the league mid-season.
Although playing in a tougher league, the former DD Sunshine striker has set herself a target of 40 goals this season.
